I am going to start doing a weekly recap to keep track of our learning endeavors, meal plans and any other activities we do on a regular basis. I thought it would be a good record for me and an encouragement to other moms as well. I will include links to recipes and to learning materials we use. Hopefully, this will be a helpful resource.
Meals for the Week
Monday – Leftovers from our Sunday cookout
Hotdogs, Festive Potato Salad and Baked Beans
Tuesday – From the freezer
Homemade Southwest Eggrolls with Ranch Dressing
I started leaving out the chicken to make them cheaper, and we don’t miss it at all.
This marinade is what makes this recipe so amazing. I can’t get enough of the sauce you make with it. I poured it on the chicken, rice and broccoli.
Smoked Pulled Pork, Cole Slaw, and Oven Fries
John smoked this pork for 10 hours, and it was melt in your mouth good.
Leftover Adobo Chicken Dinner
Snacks – Smoothies
The kids are loving smoothies right now. Camden even brought the cup to me today for the smoothie maker and said “mango.” I don’t sweeten them with anything. If you use ripe bananas, they are like a natural sweetener. We made blueberry and banana and mango and banana. These are good with kale too. We just restocked today, so the ones we made this week didn’t have any, but the kids love them with kale.
We finished our Doctor and Human Body series in April. Now we are learning about flowers and gardening. We have been working on planting a garden. Arabella and I have been learning about seeds and how they sprout and grow into plants. I don’t have any pictures yet to share, but should next week. We were under the weather this week and had three solid days of rain, so we had some movie time with some of our faves like The Sound of Music, Rio and Mary Poppins.
The hit of the week was the shaving cream which Arabella called “whipped cream.” We made letters and shapes in it. I first bought this back in the winter and thought they are going to love this. I used to use it with the 2 year olds when I taught. The first time I put it out for Camden and Arabella, they watched with horror and Camden started to cry. Big flop! They love it now. The lesson in all this is if kids don’t like something, try again in a few weeks or months and they might change their minds.
We even put it on the side of the bathtub during bath time. They had a blast!
We finally got out to go on a walk today. Our yard is under water from all the rain, so getting out on the sidewalk was a welcome bit of outside fun. We talk about all the flowers blooming, smell them (this is lilac), and pick up any that are on the ground (not from the plants).
Thursday is dance class for Arabella, so when John is off I get to take her by myself. We had some errands and shopping to do, so we had lunch at our favorite place, Panera. She was pretty excited!
That was pretty much our week. I hope yours is going as well!
