Master Bedroom Budget Makeover

Master Bedroom Budget Makeover

I’ve been working on redoing our master bedroom since before Camden was born.  I’ve posted a few posts hinting at it over the years.  I thought I should photograph and post it before we move in September.  I had frames on the wall for months before getting pictures in them, and a week later we found out we were moving back to our home state of Florida.

Because of all the eclectic things I had gathered, I went with a french bohemian theme.  For what I had on hand, things tied together pretty well.  It’s feminine, vintage and fun.  I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.  Not perfect or magazine worthy, but beautiful and budget-friendly.  I used what I had on hand, purchased a few things and put them together.

This headboard was given to us by John’s parents when we got married.  It’s in the corner because our room is tiny and it gives us extra storage for our travel bags we use for vacation.  We actually have a new bed frame waiting for us in Florida, so I’m really excited about changing things up when we get there!  John bought me this birdcage while garage sale-ing with his dad.  I painted it, put some books in it and hung it up with a ribbon.  My mom bought me the fun little vintage-looking clock for my birthday one year.  The lamp I bought at a garage sale years ago, painted it and put a new shade on it.

As you can see, I still have a lot of red in our home that I am trying phase out.  Because I can’t start over with all new stuff, I have added aqua to the mix of red and white.  I am realizing too that I still love red, and don’t care if it’s not in or trendy right now.  I painted this dresser over 10 years ago and I still love it.

I love stacking old books everywhere.  They give some height and add a coziness to a room.  Peacocks have been my favorite animal since I was a little girl.  In fact, it was one of my first words.  My mom always says that when I didn’t know what to say, I would say “peacock.”  This peacock feather has been at my parent’s house since I was a little girl.  When I found the picture of the peacock to go on the wall, I knew I wanted the feather.

It took me forever to do this picture wall, mostly because I hate to pick out pictures.  I’m such a perfectionist, I’m rarely happy with the result.  I would definitely do it different next time, but I’m glad it’s done!

This is more of my jewelry display.  You can read more about it here.

I love this picture of John and Arabella standing in front of a cherry blossom tree.  I got this little Eiffel Tower while in Paris years ago.

My mom found these hangers, so I put them up on John’s “side” of the room, so he could hang things up instead tossing them on the floor.  Your husbands don’t do that, do they?

This dresser was left here by the previous renter of our house.  It was old oak with gold brassy handles.  I painted it and sprayed the pulls with black paint that I found out in the shed.  Lucky me!  A free dresser.  It’s actually John’s.  Lucky him!

I love this picture of Arabella when she was a toddler.  She looks so french which goes with our room even more.  I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our bedroom.

On to packing it all up!

  1. Hey Julie – It looks awesome! I like the “vignettes” you have created on top of the dressers. I also love red but am also trying to switch it out for more of a jewel-toned combo (hot pink, turquoise, some deep purples and golden yellows, etc.). But, I think the red and aqua look good together! For Lela’s first birthday party, I did a strawberry theme that included reds, pinks, and aqua. It’s fresh and fun, I think!
